I don’t want to lean in, I want to lie down.
“The first time I felt truly comfortable was with him” - these were the words PJ shared about Ohannes in our design kick-off meeting. Isn’t that love? To be able to drop your shoulders and just chill the fuck out? These two felt it from day one of their relationship and relaxing together has been a staple from there on out. From boba tea day dates to Nintendo nights to cannabis all the time - they just love an excuse to relax together. So, it was only natural that they wanted to share this with their guests. But to truly know them is to know just how funny these two are - so they wanted to weave a bit of humor and irreverence into their design with their Marriage Mantra, “I don’t want to lean in, I want to lie down.” We partied at SmogShoppe in LA, a glorious venue that feels more like your cool Aunt’s studio than a wedding venue - with high ceilings and an absurd amount of plants. We incorporated lounge furniture, Nintendo, board games and DDR. The food was a mix of their LA favorites from Korean BBQ to late night pizza. Their weed bar from Irie Weddings + Events was a hit all night long. Their humor shined in the “existential crisis closet” we designed and their “annulments neon sign” hanging as the perfect photo backdrop …and we even had a first Nintendo “match” in lieu of a first dance. The party was as fun as them but without the typical pomp + circumstance of a wedding, which felt exactly right.
When we told Modern Rebel we wanted a reception with couches, cannabis, video games, and no dance floor, they embraced the challenge enthusiastically! Amy's creativity and expertise helped craft a special day that reflects who we are as a couple.
